A landing place for returning Catholics to explore and share their faith with 5 or 6 attending Catholics

LANDINGS is not:

  • The "saved" welcoming the "sinners"
  • People pressurising others to return
  • Full of answers to teach the unenlightened
  • Blind to the hurt the Church may have caused someone

LANDINGS is:

  • People in solidarity with the returning; who in their own lives have "returned," and continue to "return."
  • Founded on the belief that we do not have to be trained theologians to share what we believe, and to speak honestly about our faith, trusting in the Holy Spirit.

We all know someone who has been away from the Church and might, under the right circumstances, consider coming back.

Whilst some people are comfortable returning to the Church by celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation and then attending Mass once again, others may need more support as well as a period in which to explore their faith. Landings is a parish-based ministry of welcoming returning Catholics back to the Church.

Landings is a parish group that meets for one and a half hours a week over a six week period, and consists of parishioners and inactive Catholics who are exploring the possibility of returning.

Landings offers returning Catholics a supportive community within which they can ask questions, discuss issues, deal with difficulties; an opportunity to be with ordinary Catholics who are trying to live their faith; a safe environment in which to come to terms with recent changes within the Church and themselves.

For the "active" Catholics who take part in Landings, it provides an opportunity to share faith; participation in the Church's mission to welcome those who have been away; a chance to grow and learn from each others' spiritual journeys.

Landings was devised over 15 years ago and has proved popular and successful.

Landings is founded on the belief that we do not have to be trained theologians in order to share what we believe and speak honestly about our faith.

It is the participant's own journey and concerns, with prayer and scripture which set the agenda for group meetings.

We need volunteers. We feel there is a real need to start this mission here in Exeter. However, we can't launch our Landings program without your help.
